A Contentstack to Payload migration is a structural translation. Content types become Payload collections, standard fields map across, and the work concentrates around modular blocks, global fields, references, assets, and the JSON rich text editor. Modular blocks line up with Payload blocks: each Contentstack block type becomes a Payload block with mirrored subfields. Global fields are modelled once as reusable grouped fields so the reuse survives the move instead of becoming copy-paste in each collection.
The migration exports the stack through the Contentstack CLI or the Content Management API, then migrates assets before entries. References carry a UID and content type, so they resolve in a second pass after the first pass has created all documents and recorded the UID to Payload ID map. JSON RTE or older HTML rich text needs a transformer into Lexical. Locales are fetched and written per locale, and published state from the chosen environment is mapped into Payload drafts.
