An Oracle Content Management migration is often deadline-driven, so the first job is to identify the repository and channel that are the source of truth. OCM content types become Payload collections, but digital assets, renditions, references, embedded content, multi-valued fields, taxonomies, and publishing state all need deliberate mapping. The guide recommends migrating the native asset files and letting Payload regenerate image sizes, rather than carrying OCM renditions into the new platform.
The migration exports content through OCE Toolkit or the Content Management REST API, migrates digital assets first, and builds a GUID to Payload media ID map. Content items are then created with references blank and updated in a second pass once every target document exists. Rich text is HTML, so it is transformed into Lexical while resolving inline assets through the media map. Language variants are grouped by translation set and written to Payload locales under one document ID.
