A Sitecore migration is driven less by the raw content volume than by the shape of the existing build: renderings, templates, integrations, personalization, and the front end that sits around the CMS. The source guide frames the audit as the step that turns a broad range into a committed scope. Content and media can move, but the project has to decide which Sitecore structures become Payload collections, which presentation-layer assumptions belong in the new React front end, and which integrations need to come across on day one.
What gets rebuilt is usually the larger share of the work. Sitecore presentation logic and templates do not become Payload screens by themselves, and personalization or suite-level features have to be recreated only if the team still uses them. The data transfer carries the content into typed collections, but old URLs, metadata, redirects, and content parity still need validation against the legacy site before launch so the site's search equity survives the cutover.
